Happy Valentine's Day—I Have a Rant—Peanut Products!

Mmmmm. When we are in Florida and need a BBQ fix we go to Logan's Roadhouse, basically because there is no Texas Roadhouse nearby. Nothing beats slow-cooked fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs!

Nothing can make a vegetarian barf like a big slab o'them baby backs just oozing with smoky saucy goodness!

Logan's says it best themselves:
"We don’t cook our ribs, we baby our ribs. We rub ‘em with a unique blend of seasonings, slow roast ‘em for over eight hours in-house every day, grill ‘em to perfection over an open flame and slather ‘em down with a savory BBQ sauce."
What more can I say? Pair them up with your choice of sides and you have a winner! The rolls are to-die-for, they have a special house recipe and today the rolls were perfectly crispy on the outside and ooey-gooey fluffy good on the inside. Big Al had rolls for dessert.

I, on the other hand, scoped out Logan's not just for the ribs, but for their special Mini Bucket Dessert known as the Nutter Butter® Fudgeslide. It's described as, "Chilled chocolate mousse, fudge & Nutter Butter® Topping with a crunchy peanut cookie". And it is as good as it sounds. It's one of those tiny dessert shot-style desserts so It is just a little bit, just enough. And I get to keep the cute little bucket! The flavor and texture is indescribable. And I won't be describing it here today because it contains commercial peanut butter products distributed by Peanut Corporation of America, currently on the spot for one of the larges food recalls in American history.

Now aside from the fact that I did not get my Nutter Butter® Mini Bucket fix, which really pisses me off, Peanut Corporation of America announced yesterday (Washington Post article) that they were filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection...the original bailout? Seems they were more interested in selling peanut products than consumer safety. You know, certain safety measures, like a clean facility, can really hurt the bottom line. Can't have that now, can we?

When I first heard of the recall, I thought, "Great. Now they're brining in peanut butter from China". Hey, 60% of the honey on the market now comes from China, so why not? But I digress...

But no. Right here in the U.S., "deplorable conditions--roaches, mold, [and] a peanut roaster unable to kill salmonella". (full article NBC Affiliate 11 Alive, Atlanta, GA)

And 11Alive's Jaye Watson just had to say it, in true journalistic fashion..."You understand that people are very angry and they want to know who is responsible," Watson said. "Who do people blame?"
